What Is a Curb Mounted* Skylight?

outside curb dimension

A curb is simply a wooden box that is built higher than the roof and flashed (sealed) to become part of the roof.

The skylight is then dropped over the curb—much like the lid of a shoe box—and attached from the outside.

*Required for roof slopes LESS than 3/12 (14°).

What Is Skylight Flashing?

VELUX EDL Flashing Kit
VELUX EDL Fl. Kit

Flashing is usually comprised of shaped metal in three components:

  1. Head flashing—at the top of the skylight.
  2. Sill flashing—at the bottom of the skylight.
  3. Step flashing—interwoven with the shingles along the sides of the skylight.

Flashing seals the skylight against the harshest extremes of weather and makes either a deck mount skylight or a skylight curb part of the roof itself.

What Is a Deck Mounted Skylight?

deck mount cross

A deck mount skylight—unlike a curb mount skylight—is simply attached directly to the roof deck.

The skylight is then flashed (sealed) to become part of the roof.

A VELUX skylight installed with a VELUX flashing kit is guaranteed leak-free for 10 years.

What Is MAGS BAR?

mags_bar_composite_whiteMAGS BAR is a non-structural, maintenance free, aluminum glazing system that is custom built to fit the desired opening.

The bar is designed as a clamping system that sandwiches glazing between two bars. Glazing choices are nearly limitless.

Why a VELUX GDL Cabrio Balcony?

Much more than just a window!

VELUX CABRIO® balcony windows can dramatically change a room.

They’re the fastest way to add natural light, ventilation and the feeling of openness to your under roof spaces.

The impact in terms of daylight and fresh air, not to mention the view, is stunning.

Details

Why a Top-Hinged Roof Window?

A loft area isn’t complete without a great view of the countryside or city.

When fully open, they give you an uninterrupted view, while the window sash acts as a roof over the opening.

Because the handle is at the bottom, they are simple to open and close, even when installed high up.

And to make cleaning a breeze, the window swivels in its frame for easy access.

Details

Why a Center Pivot Roof Window?

A center-pivot roof window is easy to operate— even with furniture beneath. The innovative top control bar allows you to open, close and ventilate with ease.

You can install the window lower than an equivalent top-hung operated roof window to get an excellent view while standing and when seated.

Works well in rooms with a low ceiling or where you’d like a better view of the surroundings below.
