VELUX Skylights

What is the VELUX Skylight System?

Experience ultimate control over your indoor environment with our modern Skylight System. Featuring a white, solar powered room darkening shade, it ensures complete comfort and style in your home.

Velux kli310 remote

Factory paired remote controls for shades are included in all Skylight Systems for easy set-up and operation. Electric and solar venting Skylight Systems also include remotes pre-paired to open and close the skylights.

How do I know what skylight size I need?

Your skylight installer will help you decide what size skylights will best fit your home. The industry standard for a new, in-home skylight is typically 5% of the floor space. This applies in rooms with a lot of windows already. It is 15% of the floor space in rooms without much natural light. These ratios help keep your space as energy efficient as possible. They also allow you to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air that skylights offer.

How much light will a skylight add to a room?

The biggest difference is in the quality of light. Light from a skylight brings the light down from the ceiling, lighting up all corners of the room evenly. A window can cause “shadows” in your room, but a skylight does not because the light is coming from overhead.

Do I need a Fresh Air skylight?

Venting skylights work best in sun heated rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. They are ideal for rooms with high cathedral ceilings or rooms without any other ventilation. Natural ventilation does not add to your electrical bill, like an exhaust fan would. It can also reduce your cooling utility bill. Learn more about solar and manual venting skylights.

How long does it take to install a skylight?

We typically figure one day per skylight for the installation. We assign enough workmen to finish all installations in one day if we are installing more than one in a vaulted ceiling. After the installation, the drywall technician will come in. He typically does not need an entire day to do his job.

Do I need to be home while the installation is being done?

You will typically need to be home to let us in. You also need to be available during the layout of the skylight opening in the ceiling. After that, you will be free to come and go at will.

Where is the serial number on my skylight?
Velux serial loccations.

Every VELUX skylight and roof window features a data plate. It is mounted on the frame or stamped into the side of the exterior covers. This dataplate holds the product serial number, which tells the skylight model, glass type and date of manufacture.
When ordering accessories for existing products or requesting product servicing, you should locate this number before contacting us. Doing so will help us give you the best service possible.

Does VELUX make custom sized skylights?

VELUX can make some custom sized skylights that vary from the standard sizes. We can also make many custom sizes for the FCM curb mounted skylight.

Can I apply a film to the glass to decrease heat and light?

VELUX does not recommend the addition of any store-bought film to the glass of our skylights. The addition of store-bought film or tint will void the warranty on the glass. Our glass is manufactured with a Low-E coating. It is also injected with Argon gas. These features make our skylights very energy efficient. Moreover, we also offer several sun-screening options. These can be added to your skylights and roof windows. They help to regulate light and heat.

VELUX Sun Tunnels

How Much Does A VELUX Sun Tunnel Skylight Cost?

A standard installation includes the 10 inch, rigid tube VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylight and 43″ of tubing. Under normal circumstances, it can be installed for as little as $950. Excludes any costs due to interior repairs needed, paint and/or staining, and any permit fees or associated costs.

What Are Unusual Circumstances?

Some examples: A flat or steep roof. A tile, metal or stone coat roof. Additional tubing. Difficult access and/or attic or framing obstructions. A nominal fee will be applied for locations outside our normal service area.

How Long Does It Take To Install?

A standard installation — with no unusual circumstances — can take as little as two to three hours.

Do I Need To Be Home While The Installation Is Being Done?

You will typically need to be home to let us in. It is important to be available during the layout of the skylight opening in the ceiling. After that, you will be free to come and go at will.

How Much Light Will A VELUX Sun Tunnel Skylight Offer?

A VELUX 14″ Sun Tunnel provides daylight levels equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent bulb on a cloudy day. On a sunny day, it provides light equivalent to up to four 100 watt bulbs. The positioning of the skylight will affect the available light. The length and/or bending of the tubing will also have an impact. We are not responsible for the specific amount of light provided by the VELUX Sun Tunnel.

How Long Is The Warranty?

For 10 years, VELUX warrants Sun Tunnel skylights and flashing will be free from defects in material and workmanship. VELUX warrants the reflective material of the tube for 20 years.
Skylight Specialists offers a Five Year Leak Proof Warranty* on VELUX SUN TUNNEL installations. *Leak proof warranty is void if work is done by others in the vicinity of the SUN TUNNEL. No condensation warranty is in effect.
