A Note from the Owner:
Why We Added Glass Railings
The upgrade I didn’t think I needed.
To our customers,
I’ll be honest—I was skeptical.
When my wife, Kelli, and I were renovating our lake house, she was the one pushing for glass railings. I’ve been in construction my whole life. I didn’t think swapping out the old wrought iron system for glass would make that big of a difference. I worried about the cost. I definitely worried about the cleaning. I didn’t think those black bars were all that bad.
Boy was I wrong.
The difference wasn’t just “better”—it was transformative. For years, I had looked through vertical black bars without realizing how much they were slicing up the horizon. The moment the glass went in, those bars disappeared. The view I had paid for was finally wide open, showcasing an expansive and uninterrupted panorama.
Now, I find myself just sitting back and staring at the ever changing blue water in a way I never did before. It completely upgraded the curb appeal of the house, taking it from “standard” to “custom high-end” instantly. It is hands-down the best renovation decision and investment we have made.
A bonus point… it proved to be sturdier and safer than our old system. This gives us peace of mind. We know grandchildren and pets can play safely ensconced on the deck.
And the cleaning? That was the biggest surprise. Because we used high-quality, treated glass, a quick wash once a season keeps the panels crystal clear.
Why Skylight Specialists? After living with this transformation, I realized we had to offer this to our customers. We already handle heavy structural glass every day for our skylight projects. We have partnered with the experts at RF Transparent. They engineered my personal system and made the logistics seamless. Now, we can bring this “million-dollar look” to your home. The cost is far more reasonable than you might expect.
We use the same commercial-grade materials I trusted for my own family, installed by the same crews that keep your roofs and skylights watertight.
If you are on the fence like I was, take my advice: Don’t hide your view. Reveal it.
Sincerely,
Rob Packard president, Skylight Specialists, Inc.
