Our MAGS Bar Provides Long-Term Water Leak Solution

A rather unique skylight brings sunlight into the basement.

Unfortunately, the skylight of this large, 30 year old home in the Hyde Park community is also allowing water to penetrate into the lower level of the home.

Our very own product, MAGS Bar, along with proper sealing, curb construction, and custom flashing will provide a long term solution to this particular leak. We warrantee it leak-free for ten years.

The Replacement Process:

Curb construction:

A skylight curb is a wooden frame that is built around an opening to support the skylight. The skylight then sits on top of the curb like a lid on a shoebox. In this situation, it also supplies a slope to provide proper drainage.

Flashing the curb:

Flashing is material that covers joints, edges and other vulnerable areas to protect against water penetration and wind damage. We choose aluminum because it doesn’t rust, is cheaper than copper and comes in a variety of standard colors.

Our sheet metal folding machine allows us to custom form shapes to completely surround the curb with an aluminum shield that matches the home’s trim.

Finishing the installation:

Installation of the MAGS Bar system is straightforward. The perimeter and intermediate base units are installed on the curb followed by the glass units which are clamped with the compression bars. A custom white beauty cap tops it all off.

The Skylight:

MAGS BAR – stands for Multiple Application Glazing System.

  • An aluminum glazing system, with neoprene rubber gasketing, a condensation gutter and thermal break.
  • Custom built on site to fit the desired opening.
  • The bar is a clamping system that sandwiches glass between two gasketed bars.
  • The top pressure bar is covered with a beauty cap to give it a seamless look. The beauty cap used a custom white color matching the flashing used.
